About Me

I grew up in a Cricket loving family. Some of my earliest memories of the game involve going with my father to run errands. He'd pull the scooter over whenever we passed by a local ground where some club Cricket was being played and we'd end up watching for a few overs too many. This is where I fell in love with the sound of leather on willow and learnt my first science lesson - the sound followed the sight of the blade flashing through.

I played enough Cricket and have followed more than my fair share over the years through print, video and audio to fortify the infatuation into lifelong admiration of the nuanced art and science that is our game. I continue to be a bit biased towards the longer format, but I appreciate the beauty of the game in all its avatars. I love being a student of the game.

I've realized, that over the years, as I've focussed my energy in directions that meant that I would never play beyond a certain level, I have been acquiring a set of skills that I can use to position myself to poke at this sport with, and see what comes out the other side. I built a network and created a portfolio of work in Cricket including professional engagements while thriving in a demanding and competitive career in tech and supporting a young family.

I ceaselessly ask the question: What is the best I can do for the game from where I am now?

My goal is to:

  1. Infuse the benefits of rigorous data informed and logical decision making methods and processes in Cricket for team and player level strategy and development
  2. Exploit the convergence of my deep passion for Cricket and my skills and experience for pushing excellence in the sport
  3. Continue to be a student of Cricket by getting deeply involved in the sport at the highest level and making impactful contributions

I conduct self-directed research to quantitatively explore various topics, documenting my work in a blog as well as on Twitter. I have a part-time engagement with Zelus Analytics where I play a leading role in bridging the gap between Data Science & Cricket specific domain understanding, contributing on model ideation and methodology, usage and applications of resulting outputs and product management. As part of this engagement, I am part of the core group working on data-aided strategic solutions with the extended Rajasthan Royals team. In the past, I've done Hackathons with Cricket Australia & freelanced with CricViz, collaborating closely with Data Scientists and Team Analysts.

I have a background in Data Science, Hardware and Software Engineering and I an experienced leader of people and projects in the Tech industry on the lookout for a convergence of opportunity and motivation in Cricket.
